At a recent wedding, the couple thought they would save money and ask a friend to “man” their iPod for ceremony, cocktail hour and dinner /dancing. Let me save you time from reading the entire article below and fast forward to the summary right here: a professional special event DJ is not only worth their weight in gold, you are actually maximizing your investment if on a limited spending plan. For one service provider, you have peace of mind from ceremony through the end of the evening and they are almost always more cost-effective than a band if you have super limited funds.
However, if you are the type of person who needs actual, real examples of “why” because you think wedding service providers are out to take advantage of you financially, below is a real-life example from a recent wedding where they insisted on using an iPod and having “friends” man it for the wedding.
With this couple’s dynamic background combining the West Coast television industry with East Coast elegance, refinement and tradition, Shannon and Mark’s wedding was a beautiful blend of “upscale fun”, all in the relaxed ocean-view setting of private estate Heartstone Ranch. Catered by Tagine Beverly Hills, the cuisine was a beautiful hybrid of California -meets-Moroccan and all the special touches throughout the event made this a memorable one for all the guests, who came from both East and West Coast to celebrate with this dynamic couple and their families.Read More >>
East Coast couple Amy and Dan ended up booking me a year after our first conversation. In fact, I thought perhaps they had chosen another planner or perhaps chosen to get married outside the Santa Barbara area because I hadn’t heard from them for so long. Turns out, they were just carefully making sure that those closest to them would be able to make the long trip out first before securing my services.
When we first spoke and they described their ideal wedding elopement to me, they said it would be for them and 8 of their closest family and friends. They wanted something warm, cozy and romantic that would be an incredibly elegant destination Santa Barbara wedding experience and one that provided some of the best cuisine and wine in the country. For me, the choice was clear: San Ysidro Guest Ranch. Not just because of my love affair with the property and staff , nor because my vintagely romantic heart loves that Sir Laurence Olivier and Vivien Leigh said “I do” at midnight in these very same gardens, but because this gorgeous and sensational Santa Barbara wedding location met every single one of their criteria. And more than anything: I just saw Amy and Dan there.

The moment I met Charlotte I fell in love. And so did every event supply partner producing her Santa Barbara Four Seasons Biltmore wedding. Her (now) husband, Kevin, dazzled us too with his sparkling eyes and love for Charlotte and the two of them truly renewed my love in why it is I am in this industry of weddings.
The main reason I am in the wedding industry may surprise you. It is not because I’m a die-hard romantic and live vicariously through creating fun and beautiful events for my clients (although that is a part of it). The leading number one reason I am in the wedding planning industry is because of my love of family. I interview my potential clients very carefully and during the interview process listen to what is important to the bride and groom. The number one thing I listen for is their love of family or wanting to make this a day to remember for themselves- and their families. Charlotte and Kevin were all about their love of their family. And they chose one of the area’s number one choices for a destination Santa Barbara wedding: The Four Seasons Biltmore.Read More >>
One of my favorite things about this Santa Barbara wine country wedding at Lincourt Winery was the elegance and multi-cultural aspect my clients and their families brought to this wedding day. Virtually all wineries have an elegance about them, but Lincourt Winery is special – it used to be a dairy farm and the old yellow house that is now the tasting room was an old Sears Craftsman House kit that overlooks the vineyards below and the red barn adjacent. It oozes country charm. But my favorite thing about Lincourt Winery weddings? So little decor is needed. The backdrop is already set with vines and in the distance, the Santa Ynez mountains and beautiful sweeping blue skies cradle Lincourt Winery in their arms. And don’t even get me started about having a wedding at this charming location under a full moon. It is simply other-worldly, if you are lucky enough to have that epic experience.
I had the honor of working with a talented, smart attorney-in – training bride Becky and her already- attorney fiance, Imran. Becky’s parents areRead More >>
When my phone rang and the sweet voice on the other end said, “Hi Kerry Lee, this is Mira – I was a bridesmaid in one of your client’s weddings last year and I would love to talk to you about being my wedding coordinator for my own wedding at Heartstone Ranch,” I was elated and didn’t have to think twice.
This incredibly talented young woman, also working on her Master’s Degree while planning her wedding, hailed from the South. Her exotic gorgeousness is a blend of her Eastern Indian heritage and intelligent, kind, gentle ways. When I met her fiance, I could see why he was so smitten and dedicated to her. And Steven was pretty special too.
Mira and Steven chose Heartstone Ranch because of her love of horses. And this love shone throughout all the touches she did: from herRead More >>
Santa Barbara Wine Country. An incredible location set in the midst of lush green vineyards. Good ol’ southern hospitality and charm gracing every turn of this wedding with a casual comfort that embraced every guest. As if that wasn’t enough, how about a full moon? There are few moments in life which could ever be scripted and timed as beautifully as this was. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so we will let the photos below speak for the story of this gorgeous and epic evening.Read More >>
Santa Barbara has so many wedding locations and choices. And I love them all. But one of the things I love most about producing weddings in Santa Barbara is working at the Bacara Resort and Spa. Located on a bluff overlooking the ocean and Santa Barbara Channel Islands, this resort boasts top notch internationally-acclaimed service and features and brings weddings to a whole new level with their “Bacara Bride” program.
When Shannon and Jeff came to me for their big day, I was smitten. Both of them were among the kindest people I had ever met. Shannon had a clear idea of her color and theme and we carried this throughout the entire event. Her vision was clear: sea mist cool greens and blues, table names that were popular beach names, sand dollars for escort cards, and instead of favors for guests, they hired caricature artists to do portraits of guests during cockail hour and after dinner. After the moving toasts by their friends and families, sweet tooths were satisfied withRead More >>
