Kate and Geoff: Illuminated Woodland Elegance at Casa Grande, Rancho Dos Pueblos

Real Weddings / 12.15.20180 comments

When I get to be involved from the beginning of the planning process, it’s my absolute favorite!  After our initial meeting and reviewing the design planning worksheet I have my clients fill out, I went to work, and the planning months following were filled with lots of adventure and detail implementing Kate’s dream of “woodland rustic elegance”.

One of the benefits to hiring a professional planner is that he/she knows exactly the perfect event partners to make up the dream team who will implement the client’s vision .

When A Wedding Planner Weds | The Reception Soirée Story: A “Mobile Dinner Feast”

Blog, Event Industry Businesses & Professionals, Real Weddings, Special Events / 05.05.20170 comments

When we announced to some of our closest friends that we just got married in a secret destination elopement to Santa Fe, New Mexico, one text came back immediately from a long-time friend:  “We want to host a reception for you when you return to celebrate.”  Seeing as this text was from one of the area’s leading event partners and her daughter, a professional wedding and event planner who had been my Associate for so many years, we knew we were in for something special.  But just how special, we did not know until we arrived at the private home of our hosts Heidi and Mike Whitcomb, owners of Ventura Rental Party Center for a grand celebration in style.  Event planners extraordinaire Heidi and Ashley  of Events by Ashley W. produced a night we – and our family and friends- will never forget.  My husband and I did not do one bit of the planning nor were we involved at all.  We provided them with a guest list and literally just showed up and stepped into our reception.  In fact, being on the other side of planning a wedding was almost overwhelming. I remember staring at our wedding cake for cake-cutting not quite sure how to tackle it, despite the fact I’ve counseled hundreds of couples for over 15 years on this exact act.

Fresh & Successful 2016 Season for Party Time with Scott Topper

The amazing Host, Producers and Sponsors for Party Time With Scott Topper 2016 Season on TVSB

The amazing Host, Producers and Sponsors for Party Time With Scott Topper 2016 Season on TVSB pose with me

When Scott Topper first asked me if I wanted to co-produce and coordinate for his Party Time with Scott Topper show for 2016, I was honored.  He told me straight up that the show was like “community theater” and when he said that, he had my heart and attention.  Having a background in musical theater and also loving to support community, I knew the spirit in which the show would be produced and couldn’t wait.  Shows like this are all heart.  With an audience that reaches approximately three times the amount the Santa Barbara Bowl holds, as well as 5 million homes being able to watch the show on ROKU,  this was a great opportunity to showcase some real collaborative talent and have fun.

The first order of business for me was to come up with something fresh for his show for the new year, something that had not been done yet.   The sets in the past were gorgeous, and each year only got more beautiful. They were a lovely backdrop for guests to come, sit and be interviewed about their job.  And while this is the basis for the show, I wanted the way they were presented to be different.  I wanted to focus on a viewer “experience”, and do something different for 2016 that added dimension.

Catering Connection Showers Event Profs with Love- and A Guest-Interactive Experience

Blog, Event Industry Businesses & Professionals, Industry Shenanigans / 02.11.20162 comments

unnamed-33I love my job, especially because of events like last night that combine my favorite ingredients of life:  amazing food and beverage, great company …and the pièce de résistance: great humor and fun between everyone.  As a mom who juggles two event businesses and all that life slings at her, you could literally hear the wheels of my car peeling out when the babysitter showed up and I high-tailed it to Catering Connection’s culinary studios last night.  In an industry where our entire focus is taking care of others, it is especially meaningful when someone takes care of us.  And Catering Connection, one of Santa Barbara’s leading full-service caterers who just celebrated their 20th Business Anniversary last year offered to do just that.  As a thank you to those with whom they work, they decided to do more than just drop off a plate of cookies (not that there’s anything wrong with that- I will never turn down a cookie).  They decided to give their event supply partners an evening out- an experience – if you will.

Event Professionals in a Moroccan Cabana for Episode 1 of Party Time with Scott Topper 2016

Event Professionals in a Moroccan Cabana for Episode 1 of Party Time with Scott Topper 2016

Party Time with Scott Topper has become one of the community’s most beloved local television features.  Produced at independent studio TV Santa Barbara, the show’s founder, producer and host Scott Topper, is the first to admit that it’s like “community theater”.  So, for someone like me whose background includes the theater arts, the local “feel” of folks putting in their heart and soul into an endeavor with a little quirky touch really appealed to me.  When Scott asked me to co-produce and come up with a fresh concept for his 2016 shows, I was thrilled.  I have worked with Scott for years professionally working weddings & events and having watched Party Time with Scott Topper, thought it would be a great opportunity to do one of the things that I do best:  inspire with fresh

The Number One Possible Hidden Element in Some Catering Bids That Every Bride Should Know

At Santa Barbara Wine Country Weddings & Events, we have a required “Full Service Caterer” list from which our clients must hire.  These professionals already adhere to service basics in producing weddings and events. They know that the caterer’s job is more than just to provide good food.  They are the backbone of a successful event: from coordinating rentals to set up, breakdown, proper clean-up, timing, and so much more.  Plus, they provide one of the most essential elements of any good caterer, and that is the element of pre – event day planning and communication with a dedicated representative that will be with you in the planning stages of your event. The latter is not always reflected on a catering proposal, and not paying attention to this can cost one dearly “day of”, or in unexpected charges from the sub-standard caterer (or other service providers who have to do extra work to accommodate what the caterer should have been doing to begin with).

Many wedding clients feel that a mass-produced meal event could not have the quality and caliber of an intimate more private dinner for two at one of the area’s leading restaurants.  Santa Barbara has several leading full-service caterers that prove otherwise and one of them – who just celebrated 20 years in business as one of the area’s finest- Catering Connection– confirmed just that.  Using only the freshest produce and ingredients, Catering Connection clients are always

Putting the “Fun” back in “FUNdraiser”: “Murder in Swingtime”

Blog, Special Events / 04.29.20111 comments

I admit it.  I am a vintage girl at heart who should have been born in another era wearing gardenias in her hair, visiting supper clubs by night and dancing until the wee hours of the morning with the love of my life in a pinstripe suit under a full moon to a live swing band in the 1940’s.   So it may come as no surprise that I have always wanted to produce a 1940’s themed event.

When The Howard School in Carpinteria asked me to plan their 2011 Annual Fundraiser Event,
