The Reality of “Day-of” Coordination | Why I Won’t Be Your “Day-of” Coordinator

Event Planning Advice / 05.26.20160 comments

ART Caitlin 1With Santa Barbara going from about 5 or 6 leading professional wedding planners a few years ago to about 52 now (last count), couples getting married in this area who are either required by their venue to have a professional event coordinator or simply those knowing the invaluable investment a professional provides,  find themselves in a quandary with the overwhelming amount of choices listed for them now in our area.

The individual wedding coordinators who make up that (approximate) 52 count range from long-time, well-established professionals who are educated, experienced, work continually and are referred by venues and event partners alike, to those who moonlight on the side as a hobby to those who are simply in love with the idea of being a wedding planner (perhaps they planned their own wedding or a friend’s) and think it’s either about pointing people around day-of and/or just hiring vendors who do “pretty” things and services.

The Work that Really Matters | My Top 5 Behind-the-Scenes “Secrets”

Blog, Event Industry Businesses & Professionals / 12.27.20150 comments

Image-9371702-186747862-2-WebSmall_0_3dc0d31a4e12d5eb10b7ea798c9c5deb_1The single most important element of my work is one that will never be featured in the news, will never earn me some prestigious industry award and yet, it is more important to my existence and contributes to my 15 year business success and reputation more than anything else:  it is the work that really matters:  it is investing in humanity and relationships with everyone with whom I come into contact: clients, event partners and more.  Even more than this, but quite simply, it is paying attention and being present.

These simple acts of paying attention over time is what I call “investment time”.  You may not
see results from it monetarily (or otherwise) immediately (and honestly, monetary gain shouldn’t be your primary goal anyway), but they do spell out long-term business over time.  I have developed a faithful and loyal devotion to my brand because of their allegiance to me and my “investment” in them.  People “buy” people, not just a product or service.

To invest in people, one has to pay attention and genuinely love the process. Here are some of my secrets that are  part of my core value system as an individual

As you are perusing  through our planning package suggestions and starting prices, you probably noticed that “Month of” is the only package  that does not list a starting price. You may wonder, “Well, how am I supposed to know if you even are close to my budget without a price?”  or , “I need some kind of guideline on what to expect, as I’m shopping for Coordinators and need to know roughly what your ‘Month of’ even starts at…”

Behind-the-Scenes Services Your Coordinator Performs That You May Never Know About

An experienced, professional wedding consultant is worth their weight in gold. And then some.  Predicting and preventing crises before they happen has always been a part of our “legendary event planning expertise” we offer clients.  But perhaps just as important,  is our trademark that includes how we make people feel at the end of the event day.  This includes our clients, every guest interaction and vendors, too.

We receive inquiries on our services and many are simply looking at price alone.  And while we feel we offer significant value for our highly unique professional background and experience, our clients are also paying for our attention to detail in those moments and for those details  in which we are not technically contracted.  Here are just a few examples of what we (and many professional coordinators) are doing behind the scenes to make your wedding and event a seamless and stress-free affair:

Santa Barbara Wine Country Wedding at Lincourt | Becky & Imran

Blog, Real Weddings / 07.10.20124 comments

One of my favorite things about this Santa Barbara wine country  wedding at Lincourt Winery was the elegance and multi-cultural aspect my clients and their families brought to this wedding day. Virtually all wineries have an elegance about them, but Lincourt Winery is special – it used to be a dairy farm and the old yellow house that is now the tasting room was an old Sears Craftsman House kit that overlooks the vineyards below and the red barn adjacent. It oozes country charm.  But my favorite thing about Lincourt Winery weddings?  So little decor is needed.  The backdrop is already set with vines and in the distance, the Santa Ynez mountains and beautiful sweeping blue skies cradle Lincourt Winery in their arms.  And don’t even get me started about having a wedding at this charming location under a full moon.  It  is simply other-worldly, if you are lucky enough to have that epic experience.

I had the honor of working with a talented, smart attorney-in – training bride  Becky and her already- attorney fiance, Imran.  Becky’s parents are

Santa Barbara Wedding Planners of Distinction | The Professional vs. The Well-Intentioned Amateur

Blog, Event Planning Advice, Rants / 06.19.20124 comments

As a native Santa Barbaran and one who has been in the area as a Santa Barbara wedding planner for 15 years, we have seen our share of coordinators and planners come and go. With the downfall of the economy, suddenly those who had no experience were looking to supplement their income and because they attended , helped a friend plan or planned their own wedding, suddenly looked to this niche as an additional stream of income and proclaimed themselves a “wedding coordinator”.    We went from about 5 top notch, well-established professional Santa Barbara wedding planners to over 25 (at least, that are known) in the course of about a year.  Where most well-established, professional and experienced “month of”  (the minimum amount of work needed for “day-of”) coordinators charge roughly between
